Guyana Pushing Community Tourism

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – The Government of Guyana is pushing community-based tourism. According to the Guyana Information Agency (GINA), Moraikobai, the only indigenous community in Guyana’s “Region Five” is being promoted by Sydney Allicock, the Guyanese Minister of Indigenous Peoples Affairs.

With a population of 1200, Moraikobai is located on the Mahaicony River and is four hours away from Georgetown by boat. Minister Allicock noted that the community is “strategically placed for community based tourism and is the perfect getaway for persons who want a weekend of relaxation.”

Digicel Tells GTT To Focus On Customers And Competition

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Digicel says that GTT – a communications provider owned by the Government of Guyana and ATN International – should focus on competition and customers. GTT recently claimed that Digicel bypassed the local network via a Suriname connection and also avoided paying taxes to the Guyanese government.
